Empathy map


Empathy map


On Tuesday the 1st of march Megan and I use the tool of the empathy map. We did a study on a range of individuals as well as general findings with in the space of Tussock cafe. My findings are below, and Megan's are in a previous post. This tool provided us with inside of how people,feel and act in the current Tussock cafe,along with who uses the cafe and what needs they have.

General Cafe observations 12.30pm and Event on outside

Think & Feel

  • Thinking about their food/drink options
  • Awkward,not enough space
  • Distracting
  • Confusion from workers
  • older students appear more comfortable in the space 

Hear

  • Music very fast paced/fast pace beat
  • loud buzzing
  • people eating
  • kitchen background noise
  • noise from builders 

Say & Do

  • Majority Alone in line
  • Happy to talk at the back of the line but start to think about what the want to eat drink near the front of the line

See

  • Small wilted plants
  • Dim lighting/mellow
  • Smaller friend groups then bigger work groups
  • small child
  • small counter space
  • Event causes overflow in people

User needs

  • Space to sit,eat and place stuff

Insight

  • 1st years pass through 
  • used by non students/lectures


Mature students (group of 3) 12.30-1pm

Think & Feel

  • Enjoying company
  • social
  • Comfortable with the people they were with
  • Feel youthful,colourful clothes
  • Respect the space

See

  • using their hands as they talked
  • explaining something to each other
  • Body language-all facing inwards/toward each other
  • brought their own lunch/water bottle
  • Had a lot of bags,coats with them
  • Dim even though they were by the window on a sunny day

Say & Do

  • Using hands
  • interacting with the whole table
  • Grab water on the way out
  • Put rubbish in bin
  • Sat by window seat but didn't look outside

Hear

  • friendly chat
  • engaging talk
  • work
  • music/construction

User needs

  • Space to talk without being interrupted or too much noise
  • place to put their stuff

Insight

  • They brought their own food

Male Barista 1.15pm

Think & feel

  • Focused
  • Used to his job
  • feels comfortable in his role
  • no change in emotion
  • not being social with workmates unless he needs to

See

  • moves quickly
  • looking for other jobs that can be done
  • looking around the room when he can
  • places drinks that are ready on the bench next to him about a meter away due to lack of space
  • Smiles on as he gives a drink
  • people always walking behind his work space
Hear

  • Steam wand
  • talking to himself
Say & do

  • Calls names
  • has to reach up high for different things for drinks
  • has to walk to the other side for ice
  • organised his workspace when he gets a chance

User Needs

  • Work space
  • Good storage
